AI Chat Features and Data Processing

Overview of Data Storage

Our application employs a dual-model approach to data privacy:

Journal Entries: All journal entries are stored locally on your device with bank-grade encryption (AES-256). These entries never leave your device and are never transmitted to any servers.

AI Chat Conversations: When you use AI chat features, your messages must be transmitted to third-party AI service providers for processing and response generation.

How AI Chat Processing Works

Data Transmission

When you engage with AI chat features:

  1. Outbound Processing: Your messages are transmitted via encrypted HTTPS connections directly from your device to our AI service providers’ servers
  2. Response Generation: AI providers process your messages to generate responses
  3. Return Transmission: Responses are sent back to your device through the same encrypted channel

Important Clarifications

What We DON’T Do:

  • We do not store or log your AI conversations on our backend servers
  • We do not maintain any intermediate storage or caching of your chat messages
  • We do not link your conversations to any personal identifiers or accounts
  • We do not have access to read, analyze, or retrieve your conversations

What Happens to Your Data:

  • During active chat sessions, your messages are temporarily processed by AI service providers to generate responses
  • Once responses are received, both your messages and AI responses are encrypted using AES-256 encryption and stored locally on your device
  • All conversation history remains on your device only
  • No account creation or authentication is required, ensuring anonymity

Technical Architecture

Our application follows a direct pass-through model:

Your Device → [Encrypted HTTPS] → AI Provider → [Encrypted HTTPS] → Your Device

There is no “Aetherrax backend” that stores, processes, or has access to your conversations. We act solely as a conduit for secure transmission.

Third-Party AI Providers

Your chat messages are processed by third-party AI service providers to generate responses. While we ensure encrypted transmission, these providers process your messages according to their own privacy policies.

Important: We recommend reviewing the privacy policies of our AI service providers to understand how they handle data processing. The specific providers we use may change as we improve the App, but we commit to only using reputable AI services with strong privacy practices.

Note: AI providers process requests in real-time to generate responses. According to their policies, they do not use your conversations to train their models or retain your conversation history beyond what’s necessary for processing your immediate request.

Data Retention

Journal Entries: Retained locally on your device until you manually delete them

AI Chat Conversations: Retained locally on your device until you manually delete them

Server-Side Retention: Zero. No conversation data is retained on any servers operated by Aetherrax

Third-Party AI Processing: Messages are processed in real-time and not retained by AI providers beyond the immediate processing window

Your Privacy Controls

You maintain complete control over your data:

  • Delete individual conversations or journal entries at any time through the App
  • Clear all data with a single action in App settings
  • Uninstall the application to permanently remove all local data from your device
  • No account means no profile or data tied to your identity
  • No cloud sync means no remote backup of your private conversations

Data Security

Encryption

All data stored on your device is protected using:

  • Encryption Standard: AES-256 (Advanced Encryption Standard), the same level used by banks and financial institutions
  • Key Storage: Encryption keys are stored securely in your device’s native keychain (iOS) or keystore (Android)
  • At-Rest Protection: All stored data remains encrypted when the app is not in use

Your Responsibility

Since all your data is stored locally on your device, you are in control of its security. We strongly recommend:

  • Using device security features like passcode or biometric authentication
  • Keeping your device’s operating system up to date
  • Being cautious about who has physical access to your device
  • Regularly backing up your device (though note that App data may not be included in backups for security reasons)

Children’s Privacy

ThunDroid is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or the relevant age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has used the App, please contact us at business@aetherrax.com.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we make changes:

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the AI company see my conversations? A: AI service providers process your messages in real-time to generate responses, but according to their policies, they do not retain conversation history or use your conversations to train their models. Your messages are processed transiently and then discarded.

Q: Can Aetherrax read my messages? A: No. We have no servers that store or log your conversations. Messages pass directly from your device to the AI provider and back. We have no technical capability to access, read, or retrieve your conversations.

Q: What happens if I delete the app? A: All locally stored data, including journal entries and conversation history, will be permanently removed from your device. Since we don’t store any data on our servers, there is no way to recover this information once the app is deleted.

Q: Are my journal entries ever sent to AI providers? A: No. Journal entries remain completely local on your device with AES-256 encryption. They are never transmitted to any servers or AI providers unless you explicitly copy content from a journal entry into an AI chat.

Q: Can I use the App without internet? A: Journal entries can be created and accessed offline. However, AI chat features require an internet connection to communicate with AI service providers.
